Chess Team Celebrates Becoming Champions – Twice!
Congratulations to our chess team for winning an incredibly close regional final on tie break against King Edward’s Grammar School from Chelmsford last week.
Two early losses for Year 12’s Harry and Artem on boards 5 and 6 were followed with another loss on board 3 by Year 11’s Nikolai, from what looked like a strong position.
However, wins on board 1 by Year 12’s Sergei and for Year 12’s Christopher who was playing his final match on board 2, meant that Year 13 Polina, playing on board 4,had to win from an inferior position with little time on her clock. Playing for two hours, she kept amazingly calm under the pressure, going on to win the game and with it the match!
Congratulations also to all those who have played in the Ivan Gromov online league throughout the last two terms, Woodbridge A team have finished with a 100% score of 10 wins from 10 games which is exceptional!
