Ms Mayes, our Head of Drama has been visiting and spending time with children from Sidegate Primary School in Ipswich, working with the students and their Arts Coordinator (OW Kathryn Clements) on a Shakespeare project, culminating in a reduced performance of Twelfth Night. This has all been part of our Primary Enrichment outreach programme.
This week children from Sidegate Primary came into Woodbridge School for the afternoon, to experience, rehearse and perform in our theatre to their family and friends. They not only spent the time working with Ms Mayes but with several other students, including Year 7’s Aliona who herself went to Sidegate Primary.
You can hear all about the day and what the children had the opportunity to experience in Aliona’s report.
Another Fantastic Performance at Seckford Theatre
Earlier this week, Sidegate Primary School collaborated with Woodbridge School to stage an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night, performed by 30 children from Year 6 at the primary school. It was a great experience for these students, as they worked together, expressed themselves, and really got out of their comfort zone.
The whole performance was absolutely amazing, from the costumes to the props, to the fantastic acting. A project like this with local primary schools is important because it teaches young people theatre skills whilst improving their self-esteem, giving them a feeling of pride and success.
This outreach event also provided an opportunity for students from Woodbridge (myself and Year 12 Drama Scholars, James and Rose) alongside two students from Northgate, to assist with the performance by sharing their experiences, promoting theatre and the value of community.
