National Preparatory Schools Athletics Championships
What an amazing day! With a marvellous symmetry, all ten pupils who qualified for the National Preparatory Schools Athletics Championships finished in the top ten nationally. Sophie Graham gained a new national record, throwing the javelin 29.98m to win her age group; sister Amy won hers too to complete an unprecedented family double; and to cap it all Daniel Norman won his category in javelin, and Joanne Garnett hers in the discus to complete a School throwing quartet – all hail to them and to Mr Graham their coach! Add to that Annabel Yates’s bronze in discus; Georgia Harrold’s bronze in the 200m finals; Maddie Craig’s sixth place in the hurdles finals; Sarah Barker’s personal best by a huge five seconds to earn seventh in 1500m (and a convincing victory in her particular heat); Ianthe Hill also came and excellent seventh, this time in the long jump (3.80m); and Nathan Goddard came close to a personal best, and gained a ninth place finish in his 1500m to round off a quite spectacular set of results. And if that wasn’t enough, Joanne Garnett had a lovely chat and picture taken with a certain Daley Thompson who was there supporting his own children!
