The u13B girls continued their good form winning all 4 singles and both doubles matches. Freya Huxley started the afternoon off well securing the first win, beating her opposite no1 ranked player 6-2. The rest of the team followed suit, only dropping four games in three singles matches. Sophie Graham again paired up well with Freya to win the first doubles match. Saffron Holliday and Annabel Yates were pushed to the wire in an exciting last match but in the end the girls showed good composure under pressure to win the match 7-5. This was another dominant performance the team can be proud of.
The u13A boys were less successful with only Alex Weir-Simmons managing to score points for Woodbridge by winning his rubber 6-1. Alex Evans Lombe played an outstanding singles match coming back from 2-5 down to force a tie-break. The ultimate comeback was not to be and Alex narrowly lost the tie-break. Alex Hammond made his debut for the u13A team under a baptism of fire but showing that he will be a player to watch in the future.
The tennis season kicked off with a busy day of fixtures, Woodbridge welcoming 3 different school and 4 teams.
The u13B girls made light work of their opponents from Ipswich High School. The team of Freya Huxley, Sophie Graham, Saffron Holliday and Annabel Yates played excellent tennis individually and also combined well in their doubles matches. Woodbridge won 5 of the 6 matches.
The u13B boys beat their opponents from Brandeston Hall. Charlie Mayhew, Joshua Graves, Oliver Buchanan and Giles Kelleway only dropped 5 games in six sets, dominating the fixture.
It was less easy going for the u13A team but they frustrated a strong Ipswich team. The result went down to the wire will nail biting doubles matches which could swing the tie either way. Alex Evans Lombe and John Max lost their enthralling doubles match 6-7 in the end whilst James Martin and Alex Weir-Simmons came back from behind to upset the Ipswich no.1 pairing 7-6. Woodbridge lost the match by 4 rubbers to 2, making for an exciting afternoon of tennis.
The u15A boys also faced tough opponents from Ipswich School. Their cause was not helped when Adam Wildbore suffered an injury midway through the first doubles match. Adam showed true character attempting to continue the fixture with a damaged playing hand. The team of Eden Wigzell, Oliver Bacon, Hugo Kelley and Adam unfortunately came out second best this time, but have gained valuable experience for the rest of the season.
The next fixtures are u13A boys and u13B girls against Orwell Park on Tuesday 28 April.

OWs Laura Silovsky (left), Alice Verrill (right) and Will Loftus received their Gold Duke of Edinburgh Awards on Wednesday 11 March at St James’s Palace in the gloriously warm Spring sunshine.
HRH Duke of Edinburgh was in attendance and was in top form, chatting freely to the young people and cracking jokes.
The awards were presented by Jim Rosenthal, the sports commentator, who read from his own Gold DoE Expedition record book from fifty years ago. He spoke of the trials of his own expedition and of the crucial teamwork, camaraderie and commitment needed to complete the trip, and specifically of the enhanced self esteem and self confidence that some of his group acquired after battling through such brutal weather conditions together. That, in particular, resonated with Ali and Laura as they had trudged in such bitter Lake District weather themselves!
Congratulations to you all!

Book and Arts Week ended on Friday, 20 March with all of Queen’s House dressing up as our favourite animal characters from books. A fantastic variety of creatures turned up including: Fantastic Mr Fox, The Enormous Crocodile, plenty of Dalmatians, Paddington, Muggle-Wump, The Little Red Hen, Puss-in-Boots and Rasta Mouse! A fantastic effort was made with the costumes and the children enjoyed the fancy dress parade in the morning. Mrs King judged the best costumes and the winners were: Suki for her fabulous snail, Rowan who was Winnie the Pooh, Sam for his waddling penguin, Jackson who was Mr Fox and Betty who was Mrs Fox. The overall winner was Arthur who was Paddington, complete with marmalade sandwiches in his old suitcase. What a wonderful end to a terrific week.

On 24 March 2015, Mrs Copestake, the Food Technology teacher, took the Year 2 to visit Sainsbury’s in Ipswich. Mr Na Nakhorn, the store manager and parent of Year 2 pupil, Arthur, planned a brilliantly organised morning of activities learning many interesting things and skills. The overall favourite activity was, unsurprisingly, injecting jam into the doughnuts and coating them in sugar. The trickiest task of the day was, without question, completing this without licking fingers!
Another favourite was when the children tested their speed skills at scanning products at the checkouts. You will be pleased to hear, we have a few potential tillers for the future as several managed 20/20 in 1 minute.
Other activities such as cheese tasting, calculating the cost of a meal deal, finding the origin of the bananas, or locating the dragon fruit kept the children busy and very excited.
Many thanks to Mr Na Nakhorn and his team for a hugely entertaining and informative day. The children were so grateful for their goodie bag of doughnuts and cupcake fun!

Last Thursday two Year 2 football teams took part in the Soccer Tournament at The Abbey. Both teams looked professional and played extremely well, gaining second and third place overall. Barnaby scored two brilliant goals in a row and Lara, who was the only girl on the pitch, played with great skill and determination. All the games were played with enthusiasm and good sportsmanship with plenty of encouragement from the side-lines. At the end of the tournament everyone received a medal and a delicious match tea. A big thank you to the organisers and coaches Mr Graham and Mr Earl.
