Under 19 Chess Tournament Semi Final
22 Jan 15
Tuesday 20th January saw the schools National Under 19 chess team travel to Southend High School for Boys for the regional semi-finals of this prestigious competition. One of the great things about chess is that age is largely irrelevant, and we fielded 6 players from Year 13 to year 7. In the end the team scored a convincing 4-2 victory, with wins for captain Justin Tan, Anthony Yu, Taisei Tsuruoka and crucially, after a game lasting one and a half hours, Hugo Kelleway. The two games we lost were long and very close affairs, so congratulations also to Lai Chun and Harry Rennell for their performances. The zonal final will take place before half term but as of yet the opponents are unknown.
