Hockey: Junior 2nds beat Ipswich School 3-1

12 Dec 14

The junior seconds ended their hockey season on a high with a 3-1 win over Ipswich High School.  The team approached the game with the same enthusiasm they did at the start of the season with everyone wanting to put in a top performance.  The team also welcomed Amelia Potter, deserving promotion after a good season for the 3rds.  Amelia continued her good form and proved impossible to beat by tackling well and then passing the ball out.

The team started the match slowly, experimenting with some different positions.  With a less than ideal start it looked like Ipswich High may get the better of them but the cover defence managed to deal with IHS breakaways.  After about ten minutes the basic skills returned to good standards and players started to find each with better passing and support play.  Playing in their more regular positions the players came into their own and started to dominate more.  Saffron Holliday was a force to be reckoned with up front, fighting for every ball.  She scored the 1st goal to calm the nerves a bit.  Well deserved.  Amy Graham scored a second from left midfield, before IHS scored a short corner goal that was very difficult to defend.  Apart from this Natasha Doole managed to confidently deal with all other attempts at goal.  Amy Graham sealed the win in the second half by scoring her second goal after some good passing play.

Player of the match: Saffron Holliday

Thanks to all the players and supporting parents for this enjoyable season.
