
The Abbey Win the Shield at New Hall Rugby Tournament
Our first match was against Old Buckenham Hall where we drew 1-1 (Tom Martin). Our second game was against the hosts (New Hall) we won 1-0 with a try from Tom Bradley. We finished off our group with a 2-0 loss to the eventual winners Colet Court.
We progressed to the third place competition. In our semi-final we played Loyola Prep, and The Abbey team was required to defend really well in the first half; in the second half it was the Abbey’s turn to apply the pressure and we eventually scored with a try from Freddie Simpson.
In the final we were up against Felstead. After a tight first half, The Abbey scored first with another try from Tom Bradley. Felstead drew level with the final play of the game. The game went to 5 mins of “golden try”; With neither team scoring, The Abbey were deemed the winners as they scored first.
In our group of 4 we came third on points difference, winning the Shield. A great day, and congratulations to all players!
