World Book Day 2025 at Woodbridge School Prep

11 Mar 25

World Book Day 2025 was a vibrant and joyful celebration of reading, creativity, and storytelling.

At Woodbridge School Prep, the day began with a spectacular assembly featuring a colourful parade of book-themed costumes, with many staff members dressed as ‘Where’s Wally?’ characters—great fun for the children, who had the chance to try and spot them in the whole School photo!

In Assembly, Mr Palin enthralled the children with the fascinating tale of a secret tunnel running from beneath The Abbey building all the way to Seckford Hall. This sense of discovery carried through the day, as each Year group contributed a section to The Woodbridge School Prep Story, a collaborative School-wide book that every child helped create.

In line with the School theme of ‘Opportunity,’ each class transformed their classroom into an immersive, book-inspired showcase. From Year 4 stepping into the World War I trenches in Year 6’s Private Peaceful display, to Year 3 creating a Guinness Book of Records–themed room packed with games and challenges for Year 5, children loved sharing their learning with one another.

Activity rotations throughout the day allowed everyone to experience a variety of interactive storytelling, drama and reading challenges. Children from Years 3 and 5 also had the opportunity to experience the beautiful sunshine; by exploring and taking inspiration from the Prep School grounds, working together to bring their stories to life through illustrations.

In addition, each class hosted a book swap event, where children were invited to bring in and exchange books with one another. The excitement for reading was further fuelled by the visiting book fair and the arrival of hundreds of new books for our School library, giving children even more opportunities to discover new stories and authors.

Talking about the day, Luke Palin, Head of English at Woodbridge School Prep said,

“Woodbridge School Prep children and teachers had fantastic time for World Book Day 2025; celebrating the magic of books, the joy of reading, the excitement of creating our own stories – and sharing our experiences with one another. Thank you to all the students and teachers who made the day thoroughly enjoyable with their enthusiasm and participation.”
