A Day in the Life at Woodbridge Senior School

A student’s day at Woodbridge School encompasses a challenging, dynamic, stimulating range of activities as well as everyday responsibilities. Throughout the rigorous academic programme and huge range of sports, arts and co-curricular activities, our ethos and values are always present, embedded into our way of life.

The atmosphere and ethos

At Woodbridge School, our primary aim is to discover and nurture each student’s talent, so they can be the best version of themselves today, and in the future. We are passionate about delivering a modern education with a focus on the individual. From Pre-Prep into Sixth Form, our students develop their skills in resilience, leadership, creativity and problem solving.

We ensure our students develop a strong foundation, with the skills and confidence to go forward, ready and able to make their mark in a fast, ever-changing and exciting world.

Studying

Our education aims to provide each student with the essential intellectual skills required for future study, including the ability to think critically and logically, whilst still capturing the imagination and allowing for diversity of interests.

With a curriculum that combines breadth and a strong focus on the major academic disciplines, each student is given all the support they need to get the best from their time here.

Tutor groups

Tutor group sessions take place every day at 10.40am, when students get to hear school announcements, have fun with quizzes, House competitions and projects, and are free to discuss any issues they may currently be having.

Both individually and as a group, students are able to talk openly about their progress, exchange insights into approaching homework and other tasks and think about their future options. Friendships forged here often last for years after school.

Pastoral care and wellbeing

Pastoral care and wellbeing at Woodbridge is exceptional, with excellent parental links, a supportive community and highly trained and caring staff to support students.

The welfare of every student is paramount, and what we offer is a very wide umbrella of care covering everything from academic worries to coping with a major life event.

Creativity

A combined love of learning inspires our teachers and students, encouraging their independence and creativity, while helping them to become ambitious and courageous in their outlook. Whether it is in Art, Music, Drama or another field, students can explore their capabilities and discover new talents and passions.

Woodbridge School regularly hosts masterclasses with elite professionals in their field. From Shakespeare to sculpture to virtuoso violinists, we look to stretch all our students’ performance skills, ambitions and careers. We encourage all students to be creative in their outlook, not only in an Arts context, but also in finding alternative ways to solve problems and communicate.

Sports

The breadth of sporting activity at the school is one of our major strengths. We encourage students to explore their capabilities in each area of sport and they are all offered the opportunity to represent the School as part of a team.

We offer a wide range of options at a very high standard, including Equestrianism, Skiing and Cross Country, with the school achieving national success in these. We pride ourselves on having a world leading teaching team to help students excel at every level.

Co-curricular

Every Friday afternoon students are encouraged to take part in adventure and leadership activities such as the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Combined Cadet Force and Sport Leadership. This is an integral part of school life and provides an education in its widest sense.

There are few limits on what the School can provide as students are able to suggest new clubs. Whether it’s a French group or Model United Nations, student feedback is at the heart of what we offer and the opportunities are endless.

Break times

Breaks and lunch times are obviously big highlights for all students. As well as allowing time for their minds to rest and recover between classes, it’s a chance to grab snacks, find a spot to relax within our grounds, socialise with friends or take part in one of the lunchtime extra-curricular groups.

The student-run tuck shop near School House is also very popular with Senior School pupils.

Nutritious meals

The Chefs at Woodbridge School create nutritious and delicious food onsite everyday. Our food is local sourced to the highest standards whilst maintaining our environmental ethos.

All meals are served in the Tuckwell Dining Hall with staff and students enjoying the communal atmosphere. From meat-free Mondays and Fish Fridays to our beautiful daily salad bar, there is something to whet the appetite for all.

What I appreciate about the school is the way the teachers get to know each student, so that they can help them in the best way.

Online safety and security

Online safety and security is hugely important, and we ensure that students have the skills to deal with any situation that may occur online.

Updates about using technology are communicated to both parents and students to provide confidence and ensure that the technological resources that are part of our daily lives are used safely and effectively.
