Maths Intermediate Challenge results

The Intermediate Maths Challenge, which encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in using basic mathematical techniques to solve problems, was held early February 2022 with 117 students from Years 9 to 11 taking part.  This week the results have been announced and can be seen below; we’re delighted to report that 55% of those who sat the paper achieved a certificate – huge congratulations!

Kai, Isla and Harry have gone through to the follow on round Pink Kangaroo, and Ananya has gone through to the Hamilton Olympiad. Oliver, Year 11, was very close to making it to the Pink Kangaroo round so we made the decision to also put him through. 

This year’s thresholds are as follows: 

Bronze: 50+ 
Silver: 65+ 
Gold: 81+ 

Grey Kangaroo Invitation: 65+ 
England and Wales Year 9 and below, Scotland S2 and below, Northern Ireland Year 10 and below. 

Pink Kangaroo Invitation: 81+ 
England and Wales Year 10 and 11, Scotland S3 and S4, Northern Ireland Year 11 and 12. 

Cayley Olympiad Invitation: 101+ 
England and Wales Year 9 and below, Scotland S2 and below, Northern Ireland Year 10 and below. 

Hamilton Olympiad Invitation: 111+ 
England and Wales Year 10, Scotland S3, Northern Ireland Year 11 

Maclaurin Olympiad Invitation: 117+ 
England and Wales Year 11, Scotland S4, Northern Ireland Year 12 

All students below the Bronze threshold will receive a certificate of participation.
