Despite the bitter cold and sleet our girls played on undaunted, persevering through the weather to create some great chances up front… but their goalie was good, imposingly smacking her stick on her pads when she wasn’t in the thick of the action. At last we broke through for Freya Nyberg to score a brilliant goal, supplied by some great mid field play from Molly Webster. Half time came, and with it at last the weather began to take its toll…. Fewer chances for us and one for them earned Ipswich the draw. But our girls did themselves proud, especially in the cold and only having eleven players and no rolling substitutions. Well done!

The U14 A and B teams went to play away at Framlingham. Unfortunately both Framlingham teams were very strong and resulted in two losses for us but we still managed to play really well.

The A team started out with a very good first half, only conceding one goal. We managed to start out defending one of the scariest short corners ever and clearing it out wide. We managed to play very defensively and only let in a goal in the last five minutes of the match, with wonderful attacking on the left from Tessa Lye and Emma Hendry.

In the second half, we still managed to play really well. Unfortunately there was a very tricky player on the Framlingham side who sneaked in to score again. Although we did manage to get it further up the pitch, we didn’t manage to score any goals but Amy Graham did really well in the middle and on the right. Great defensive work from Sarah Barker, Joanne Garnett and Amelia Potter. It was a good match and was unfortunate to lose it 3-0 but everyone played really well. Player of the match was Emma Hendry for great skill and good attacking.

The 1st Team played Ipswich High School on Tuesday afternoon, and despite a sluggish start to the game, we managed to improve our intensity and tenacity quickly. We maintained a high proportion of ball possession throughout the match, allowing our forwards to attack strongly on the right and left sides. Our defensive line, as solid as ever, were not required as much as usual, enabling the attack and midfield players to push forward and attack the ‘D’ frequently. We scored a well-deserved goal in the first half, thanks to a brilliant cross from Imy Craig on the right-hand side, into the ‘D’ to Victoria Williams, who safely pushed into the goal. Even though the girls were tired after an energetic first half, we continued to play with force and awareness. Credit to Nicole Buckingham, Verity Jackson and Georgina Warren for considerable runs down the right and left sides, leading to secure a second goal, giving us a comfortable lead. Well done to all the girls for being so hardworking and eager to score! Special mention goes to Georgina Warren who was given player of the match, due to her tireless work in midfield.

The Hockey 2nd XI team may have lost a few games this season, but through these dark times the team has continued to attend training and play matches with enthusiasm, commitment and dedication. And this positive mental attitude has paid rich dividends at last: victory over Framlingham by 1-0! A great team performance and everyone involved should be extremely proud.

Millie Cave had a ‘stormer’ against Ipswich School – voted Player of the match by her team mates as she fought tirelessly in defence, ensuring nothing went past her and played with absolute tenacity and grit!

Jemima Hill reports
The match started off slowly, however, once we settled into the game, the pace increased. We had the majority of the ball possession but struggled to convert it into a goal. Rosa McInerney played excellently, consistently getting the ball down to our end of the pitch and keeping it away from the opposition. In the middle of the first half Jemima Hill scored a goal and we finished one-nil. The second half including some great defence from Louise Farthing (sweeper), who cleared lots of balls, sending them back to our end of the pitch. With great teamwork we managed to score another goal. By now the weather had turned, and it was raining and very windy, but we managed to get another goal, scored by Anya Trevor-Pallares. With minutes left, the opposition had a short corner, but fortunately for us the receiver missed the shot, and the ball was picked up by Jemima hill who drove it down to our end of the pitch and passed it into the D. It was received and a shot was taken, but rebounded off the goalie. Anya picked it up and scored a great shot right into the corner of the goal. The match ended four-nil. Player of the match was Millie Cave who played excellently throughout the game, and thoroughly deserved it.

Four of our Year 7 girls won the Girls U12 Suffolk Youth League Hockey Championship. Clara Simpson, Olivia Buchanan, Molly Marshall and Ella Walker were playing for Ipswich East Suffolk (IES) Hockey Club. It’s a three tournament competition and IES became the overall champions for 2015. They played some very impressive hockey winning their last game 8-0 in 12 mins. They all received medals and certificates will be handed out next week.

The match started slowly, with neither team doing particularly well. However as the match progressed the teams got further into the game and the play began to get more confident and exciting. Woodbridge was doing well to keep the ball down their scoring end and was having multiple shots. RHS also had a couple of break through where they would move towards their own scoring goal, but our defenders did well to pressure their shots and send the ball back to the other end. Towards the end of the first half Sophie Graham had an excellent shot at the goal and the ball went straight past the goalie and into the corner. The second half was full of great play and close-calls but no goals were made by either team, and the game ended a close 1-0 to Woodbridge. Annabel Yates was given player of the match for her excellent defence and decision making to come forward towards our attacking end. Also, praise must be given to the RHS goalie for her phenomenal saves, only letting one goal in from many. Well done to all who played.

After some end to end action St Felix unfortunately scored but we played well and there was some great link play between players who had only started playing hockey at the beginning of the term. We came very close to scoring a few goals but just couldn’t quite get it in the back of the net, nevermind! A good afternoon of hockey had by all with over 35 girls playing in a match.

Our B team put in a really good performance against St Felix this afternoon with some great defending by Lucy Hudson, Astrid Fauret and Jenny Clare. We had some shots on goal but kept St Felix under control in our attacking circle. Well done! There is lots to be worked on but there is improvement all the time!
