Meet Shan

Hong Kong Year 13

Shan joined Woodbridge School in Year 10, and is now studying A level Maths, Physics and Economics.

School House is right in the centre of School – and Woodbridge. I really enjoy living here, it’s a short walk to everything the town has to offer, from shops and restaurants to places to have something to eat or drink.

It’s been really lovely to meet new people from all across the world, Woodbridge School boarders come from a range of different countries and so it’s great to be able to learn more about them and their homes, and share more about each of our cultures and life experiences.

There’s always so much to do, we regularly go out on trips together – and there’s lots to do in School House too, from friendly competitions, cookery or movie nights, to sporting matches, there’s something for everyone.

A typical day sees me head down for breakfast with everyone, where we can talk about the day ahead, it’s a really nice way to start the day. I then go to the Sixth Form Centre, which is a dedicated space for Year 12 and 13 students, it’s really great, it’s like our own part of the School! Lessons are quite different to those I would perhaps experience in Hong Kong; typically the class sizes are much smaller so it means you can get support and assistance directly, quickly and easily, which helps progression enormously.

I am part of the Football Performance Programme at Woodbridge School which was developed to meet the needs and objectives of students who have a love for and desire to play Football at a higher level, or even pursue a career within the industry. I’m coached by our teaching staff, who are ex-professional players and coaches themselves.

It can be really busy, between lessons, sports opportunities and co-curricular clubs and societies, but there’s plenty of opportunity to relax too, just like you would if you were at home. The boarding house is warm and friendly and we have our own rooms. There’s always something to do or someone to talk to, at weekends trips are planned, for example we visited London recently and had time to shop, visit landmarks and really enjoy the city. We can also walk into Woodbridge town easily from School House, it’s a really peaceful town but there’s always plenty to see or do. Sometimes we go bowling, to the cinema or just hang out together – it’s great.

I’ve made some great friends and those friendships have really helped and supported me in so many ways. I also enjoy great relationships with my teachers – they’re always there if you need help or encouragement, there’s always someone to talk to. I really enjoy boarding here, I think everyone does.

Any queries?
