Meet Georgia

United Kingdom Year 13

Georgia joined Woodbridge School in Year 5 and began boarding during her A level studies.

I joined Woodbridge School Prep in Year 5 in 2017, then went on to our Senior School and I am now studying A levels in Drama, English literature and Psychology. I am hoping to continue my studies of Drama at university; currently also considering taking a gap year. I am keen to go travelling or perhaps do a foundation year in Theatre and Performance. It’s tricky to know what I want to do after university but I know I definitely want to be involved in the arts industry in some way.

I love Drama, and I’ve been involved in every production I can be since starting at Woodbridge, most recently I performed in The Trial, which was a brilliant opportunity for me – I was interviewed for the newsletter too, it was great to feel like I was part of something so professional. It’s great to be able to walk up to Seckford Theatre when we have weekend or after School rehearsals, and it’s equally as great to be able to come back to the boarding house afterwards as there’s always something there to chat about how it went and what I need to do next. I love that the boarders are given tickets to watch the performances too, and we can volunteer to usher, or help out in lots of other different ways when production are taking place, it’s something lots of us get involved with.

I chose to study here because of the School’s provision of and immense passion for Drama, Music and Sport, alongside its success in academics – I have found Woodbridge to be a very well rounded School with the ability to thrive in all areas.

The breakfast is always outstanding with a huge variety of hot food as well as cereal, yoghurt, toast, fruit – the list goes on! After breakfast the School day commences and I have my lessons. After School I belong to and attend several co-curricular clubs – so I either go to those or head back up to the house and have a chat with Miss Coleman who is always pottering about. It’s lovely as you’re always welcomed back into the house and there’s always someone to talk to if you want to.

I then grab a snack from our kitchen before heading up to my room. After having dinner together, and having the chance to catch up with everyone and see how their day has been, we then do our homework – having a set time to do so creates a solid time for work to be completed and it’s really helpful in terms of helping you structure your day and study time. A little later in the evening we have free time which we can use however we want to; from heading into town with friends or using the School’s sports facilities, there’s so much to do. Me and my boarding friends often take a trip to the local shop to get some snacks.

With it only being a small boarding house it allows for a familial feel, which makes all the boarders feel super comfortable and relaxed; as if we were still in our home environments. One of my favourite boarding memories has to be our recent competitive games we’ve been partaking in as a whole house. It has helped increase our bond with one another enormously.

We’re like any family – just because we live together doesn’t mean we have in-depth conversations with each other every day, but through sports and clubs, as well as other organised activities and the fabulous day trips Mr Gunn takes us out on, there is always something to do and someone to share it with here.

When I decided to become a boarder, there was absolutely no doubt in choosing Woodbridge due to its secure community feel. Woodbridge is the best place to board as it lets you grow as an individual – becoming more independent and crafting you with a vital skillset for the future after studies. Not only this but the friends you make here will be your friends for a lifetime. Boarding here offers you a huge range of activities and opportunities, facilitating whatever you may thrive in whether it be horse riding or swimming, playing a musical instrument or even needing extra support with learning – the support system of incredible teachers create such a loving environment – and it’s that environment and support that helps us to succeed.
