Meet Ella
Ella joined Woodbridge in Year 12 and is studying A level Maths, Further Maths and Chemistry.
I am studying A levels in Mathematics, Further Mathematics and Chemistry, and plan to attend a university in London in the UK, to study Medical Pharmaceutics or a related field. My long term hopes are to work and live in the UK, either in a pharmaceutical company or hospital setting.
Everyone at Woodbridge School is genuinely friendly, and with students coming from all over the world, there is a shared curiosity and appreciation for different cultures. This has allowed us to form strong friendships, and there is a real sense of community here, where everyone strives to make our boarding family even better.
My first winter in Woodbridge it was quite cold that year, but after School each day, I would spend time with friends in and around the School. We’d also explore the charming town of Woodbridge, which is quite beautiful and so welcoming – I think that’s one of my favourite memories of boarding here. Another particularly special memory was during Chinese New Year, when all the Chinese international students gathered to prepare a festive dinner and celebrate together. The boarding house was decorated with Chinese “福” (fortune) characters, making me feel truly at home here in the UK.
I usually wake up at 7.30am, get ready, and then head to Tuckwell for breakfast with everyone – it’s a great way to start the day. My School day consists of six lessons, as is typical for Sixth Form students; after School, I return to the boarding house to relax for a while—perhaps playing games or calling family and friends. Then it’s time for dinner together, before returning to complete my homework and studies. After homework we often gather together in School House, watching movies, or experimenting with cooking in the kitchen—something I really enjoy. It really feels like my home-from-home here.
Having visited several UK boarding schools, Woodbridge stood out the most. The people here are exceptionally kind, and both staff and students are always willing to help and support one another. As an international student far from home, I have been particularly touched by how the house staff regularly check on our wellbeing . In addition, the School’s strong academic reputation was another important factor in my decision.
I would wholeheartedly recommend Woodbridge School. Not only has this experience helped me grow from feeling uncertain when I first arrived to becoming confident in managing both my studies and daily life, but the School has nurtured my critical thinking and provided clarity regarding my future plans, all while allowing me to form lasting friendships. In short, Woodbridge is a School you can truly trust.
