43 Matches and Two Tournaments for Woodbridge Netballers

15 Mar 24

With 43 matches and two tournaments played, it has been an extremely busy few weeks since we returned from half term on the netball front for all age groups.

Woodbridge Juniors vs Various

The Junior teams have enjoyed competitive fixtures against Ipswich School, St Jo’s, Farlingaye, Norwich High School for Girls, Ipswich High, East Bergholt and St Felix.

Eight Junior teams played against strong Ipswich School teams and last week, the U12C, U12D along with the U13C and U13D teams enjoyed home matches against Norwich High School for Girls.

The U12A and U12B teams travelled to St Jo’s and came away with one win and one loss (by just one goal in the last 30 seconds!).

The U12C and U13C teams played East Bergholt’s A teams this week and again, we came away with one win and one loss.  The players in these teams should be proud of the progress they have made.

Both the U13A and U13B teams had solid wins against Ipswich High and the B team beat St Jo’s by 11 goals, with the A team narrowly missing out on a win, due to one of our fab shooters who is out with a long-term injury, unfortunately.

With 50 girls on average attending Junior netball practice on a Thursday lunchtime, this clearly demonstrates the sheer love for the sport and the desire and drive to improve.  We cannot fault their commitment!

Woodbridge U14 and U15s vs Various

Both the U14C and U15C teams played Kesgrave’s A teams at home and played well.  The U14s were successful in their match, but unfortunately, the U15Cs fought hard but could not compete with their opposition and their accurate shooting.

Both our C teams travelled to play Ipswich Schools’ A and B teams, and played some great netball, but were pipped at the post.  Playing A teams shows our depth at Woodbridge which is fantastic!

The U14A and U15A teams travelled to Felsted on a very damp and wet Thursday afternoon and came away with two strong wins, following suit against Culford last week.

The U14B team also played Culford (away) and were unlucky in the last quarter to lose by one goal; although they were facing a mix of A and B team players due to numbers.

Both teams played in the U14A netball tournament which was held at Woodbridge and the U14As came 1st and the Bs 3rd.  The U13A team also joined in with the tournament, and they thoroughly enjoyed themselves, playing some really great netball.

The U15As also had good wins against Ipswich High and Culford, where they played some competitive and good netball.  They demonstrated brilliant teamwork and determination and look forward to playing their last match against Farlingaye.

The U15B team have enjoyed fixtures against St Felix, Ipswich High and East Bergholt, where they have shown progress in their game play and determination, which has been great to see.  They were successful in two out of the three games and look forward to their next match against Farlingaye.

Woodbridge Seniors vs Various

The U19s faced Finborough at home in an exciting end-to-end game, where we went into the last quarter eight goals ahead.  Finborough’s determination and grit surprised us and put us under pressure which led to us not marking tight enough and picking up interceptions.  Luckily, in the final minute of the game, we kept the opposition on their toes and kept a one goal lead, which was thoroughly deserved.

This week, the U19s faced another strong Ipswich High team, who were getting prepared for their tournament in Nottingham.  We played some brilliant netball; accurate shooting, superb defending and attacking and turning over any loose ball.

The U16s and 2nds played Finborough at home and both teams put up a good fight against strong opposition.  The 2nds came away successful with a 20-goal win, with the 16s unfortunately were unsuccessful in their plight against a team who were well-drilled and confident – we let them get the better of us!

Well done and congratulations to everyone involved in these netball matches.  We still have a few matches to play, so good luck!

Thank you also to all the lovely supporters on the sideline, you are all great and it is a pleasure having you cheering the teams on!
