Well done to all our budding mathematicians who took part in the Primary Maths Challenge organised by the Mathematical Association. Pupils from Year 4, 5 and 6 tackled the fun, yet challenging, problem solving questions with great enthusiasm and really enjoyed using their maths knowledge and  thinking ‘outside the box’. We plan to take part in this competition every year. If you enjoy a challenge and want to try some fun problems and games, look on the Mathematical Association website.

Congratulations to Katie Bellhouse, Henry Dinwiddy and Amy Goddard who were presented with Gold certificates. Billy Godwin, Molly Marshal and Harvey Garrard achieved Silver and James Yardy, Thomas Liddy, Mya Long, Milo Vogel, Samuel Bolus, Phoebe Bell, Ella Walker, Ariane Bilgen, Talia Fawcett and Rebecca Yardy were awarded Bronze.

On Monday morning the whole school was treated to a feast of festive dancing. Particular highlights were a ballet routine danced to a song from ‘Frozen’ performed by Year 3. Years 5 and 6 performed a zingy and energetic routine from ’Grease’ and the tap-dancers were on amazing form.

All bus services are currently running as scheduled.

The last game of the season was full of apprehension and nerves as we walked onto the pitch at Framlingham College.  A team that we have met on two previous occasions this season have an aura about them and our girls definitely felt the pressure even before the game started but in our team talk we aimed to go and win the game and throw everything at them, we have scored against them before and believed we could do it again.

It was end to end stuff in the first 5 minutes but we defended like Trojans and Eleanor Berridge, Harriet Spence, Flo Jackson, Chloe Outen and Zara Lye proved why there have not been many goals scored against this team this season.  They communicated and covered each other brilliantly and above all they encouraged each other.  Issy Cory kept goal fantastically and this was matched by some great saves by Sophie Little in the second half.

We had our chances and were unfortunate not to put a goal away, but Framlingham kept pressing and we held out until half time.

We believed we had the chance to take this game and went out in the second half full of enthusiasm.  Maddy Craig, Maddy Felton, Georgia Harrold and Georgia Martin put immense pressure on Framlingham but to no avail.  Flora Johnston, Mollie Biddle and Mia King made some fantastic runs and set up some great presses during the second half and our defence held strong during some real pressure from Framlingham, especially in three consecutive short corners during the dying seconds of the game.

When the final whistle blew, our girls cheered like they had won! A great end to a brilliant season in which they have only lost one game.  The girls can be very proud of themselves, although there is a lot of things to work on, they should be very pleased with their performances and how they have conducted themselves. A HUGE thank you to all the parents for their fantastic support and cheering from the sidelines.  Well done.

Our MUN students have arrived in Paris for the MUN conference over the weekend. They have sent in some pics from their arrival last night and the opening ceremony at the event. Good luck team and enjoy the beauty of Paris!

The U15 team played their second from last game against Ipswich High School on Thursday. A goal by Ipswich High in the first half put Woodbridge on the back foot and despite tireless work they finished the game 0-1. The team showed great determination and shots on target were there, but the goal keeper had a good game. It was good to have Katja Longbon back after her concussion the other week; both she and Josephine Pryor were dominant in central defence. Another very good effort by all in the squad.

The first team had a satisfactory 3-0 win over RHS. Verity Jackson found herself at the end of a well placed pass from Lorna Bennell and opened the scoring when she calmly slotted the ball past the left foot of the RHS keeper.  A second goal was scored in the first half from a well executed short corner routine; Hermione Hatfield again touching the ball in in front of goal.

The defenders had to remain disciplined to deal with counter attacks. The second half saw Woodbridge keep possession of the ball much better. The team was rewarded for good support with one more goal. This time a well timed pass from Lorna Bennell found Imogen Craig in space and she confidently smashed it passed the goalkeeper to seal the match for Woodbridge.

Score: 2-1 to Culford

What a great game! The pace and skill from both teams was really good. Although Culford scored first Woodbridge scored a goal back by Vicky Williams with a close shot. All the squad were quick to close the game down and press the opposition with great determination. Culford scored a second goal in the second half but the game remained open right up to the final whistle, where Woodbridge had won a penalty corner in the last minute and a half of play- sadly it was not to be! Special mention must go to Sophie Little who played in goal from the U14 team and made several crucial saves. Well done to the whole team! Further matches this week on Thursday and Saturday so hopefully we can keep the momentum going.

Match won 29 – 19

This was a game played in biting conditions – and it would be fair to say that neither side played very attractive rugby but it was still highly physical and competitive. The game was balanced on a knife edge at 15-14 in Woodbridge’s favour for what seemed like an eternity before winger Anthony Yu touched down in the corner with five minutes to go. Rupert Clogg’s conversion then gave us some breathing room before we scored again in the dying seconds. Our other tries came from man-of-the-match Ben Crick (2), Sam Garrington and James Brown. Well done!

Match won 21 – 0

The boys all said this was their favourite game of the year and it was a fitting finale to an encouraging season. This was a very physical encounter and both sides were up for the battle. For once Woodbridge were not having to defend the entire time match and we were able to play more flowing rugby with ball in hand. We took the lead through tries from Sam Garrington and Will Petheram, which were expertly converted by Rupert Clogg. In the second half we found ourselves under huge pressure but we held out valiantly and then scored another converted try late on through Sam Garrington to secure our third win on the bounce. We ended the season with four wins in total which is amazing given some of the beatings we took early on. Well done to all who took part – hope you enjoyed the donuts!
